Irwin Rivera's advice to aspiring fighters: prepare for financial struggles and make unwavering sacrifices. Meanwhile, he prepares to fight Joshua Weems.
Kill Cliff Fight Club’s Irwin Rivera tells up-and-coming fighters to “understand you’re going to be broke for a long time. You’re going to have to make sacrifices and believe with a conviction always in yourself—and inevitably you will get to where you want to be.”
Where he wants to be is in Jorge Masdival’s Gamebred Bareknuckle MMA ring at the VySar Veterans Memorial Arena tonight (Friday) in Jacksonville, Florida, where he will face Joshua Weems in the bantamweight bout.
Weems is 11-3 as a pro, with a one-fight win streak. “The Beast” Rivera is 11-6, also with a one-fight win streak.
We asked Mexico native Rivera who his ideal sparring partner, dead or alive, would be. “Hands down it would have to be Julio César Chávez,” he said. “He was the pioneer and pride of Mexico’s boxing, and extremely talented so I know I could learn a lot from him. And not just in fighting, but with life.”
You can see tonight’s fight at 7 p.m. ET on the Gamebred YouTube Livestream.
