McGregor aims to make a statement in his upcoming Octagon comeback, envisioning a high kick knockout against Michael Chandler.
Conor McGregor, the former two-weight champion, is gearing up for his highly anticipated return to the Octagon before the year ends. With the date yet to be confirmed, McGregor is already envisioning a spectacular victory over Michael Chandler, emphasizing his susceptibility to the high kick.
Since headlining UFC 264 in July 2021, McGregor has been recovering from a fractured left tibia and fibula he suffered during his fight with Dustin Poirier. Chandler, a member of Kill Cliff FC, has also had his setbacks, most notably a submission loss to Poirier at UFC 281 last November.
While McGregor's return is tentatively scheduled for the flagship UFC 296 event in December 2023, he is confident that a high kick knockout will be his path to triumph against Chandler.
"I'm gonna kick this guy (Michael Chandler) in the head," McGregor shared with UFC reporter Megan Olivi in a recent interview. "He's just tailor-made to be kicked all over the place. That's what I'm aiming for. I'm aiming to wrap this steel bar around an opponent."
McGregor envisions a striking visual for fight fans: "You're going to see a visual of the leg hanging off, and then you're going to see a visual of a head hanging off. I'm excited for it, and motivated for it. And steadily making my way towards it."
Notably, McGregor's last victory dates back to January 2020, when he secured a stunning 40-second high kick and strikes TKO win over Donald Cerrone at welterweight.
